The French do not say 'good-bye'. They say 'Au Revoir', which means: 'until we meet again.' 'Au Revoir' conveys optimism and hope.
In this work, the contrast of orange against the light blue background, coupled with his greater size, causes the male figure to dominate visually. The blue color used in the female figure, makes her appear more delicate. The male figure's head is larger, and his strong arms twist the woman's shoulders towards him (her ribs seem narrower than her hips, because the shoulders are turned). His arms overwhelm her body, covering it like a blanket, protecting it like a fortress. She places her hand on his head, and gently runs her fingers through his hair.
Is the couple parting, or re-uniting?... this question is left to the viewer.
