Loving Curves Previous Next
Medium: Pastel on Acrylic on Paper
Size: 20"x27"
Description: Recently, a dear friend of Geoffrey's became pregnant with twins. Listening to her joke about weight gain, new clothing, and other issues women face during pregnancy led him to create this piece. It is a commentary on physical beauty, focusing on the form of a pregnant woman, and is an attempt by the artist to display a natural, sexy, welcome alternative to modern waif physiques.

While blue is usually associated with masculinity, here the color takes on a different meaning: 'tis the color of water, the color of life. In this picture, the head is disproportionally small; designed to stress the woman's sense her belly is overtaking her body. The belly and breasts are more robust than other ribbons, illustrating that these vessels are being stretched to capacity. The woman has one hand at the base of her belly, and the other at the top. This position/gesture conveys a caring warmth, and the innate loving connection between a mother and her children.

This work is dedicated to my dear friends. I wish you all the luck in the world; may the joy you discover as parents be endless, and your love forever grow.

Best Regards,
G.F.
