Title:
The Metropolitan Maestro
subtitle:  A Formidable 'fro
Previous Next
Medium: Acrylic and Pastel on Paper
Size: 20"x27"
Description: This piece portrays Maestro James Levine, Artistic and Musical Director of the Metropolitan Opera, doing what he is known for best. Levine's passion while in the pit is legendary. Observe his classic pose, his buffont (often compared to an 'afro'), the large almost windsheild like glasses, the pressed white shirt, and the kercheif (in his coat pocket...reminding us he's wearing a tuxedo). The red velvet rope behind him represents the top of the pit wall, seperating him from the first row of orchestra seats.

The light colored balconies in the background of this work are an attempt by the artist to convey the audience's vibrance and energy, using a technique adopted by Renior in a number of paintings depicting metropolitan Paris.
