Description:

In the midst of painting this piece, a friend remarked that it reminded her of a Riot of Marigolds. New to the horticultural term, I found it rather intriguing. This piece displays my current painting direction: laying down a field of gold on which to paint (and letting it dry). The gold underlayer is warm, while the gold used in the impasto has more of a bronze-green hue. The subtle contrast between these two is part of what makes this piece so interesting. The transparancy acheived in some sections contains a graduation adding depth. The colors of the flowers in this piece are soft by design; not wanting to overpower the softness in the background.
