Geoffrey took a respit from fulltime painting during spring and summer to focus on photographing hot-glass. During this period, he moved his studio from Haven Art, where it had remained for 2 years, back to his home.
In reducing the frequency of painting, and extending the number of sessions involved in each work, a new vibration is evolving. "Respectans" contains a mixture of brush and knifework, layering of impastos and glazes. The combination of these elements with the artist's color sense brings these works closer to the impressionist masters he studied as a child. The inspiration for this work departs from those artists in it's visceral nature.
This image evokes the warmth, spirit, and colorful ora of the place he called home for the last 2 years. It is a tribute to relationships and memories. It is the artist's way to look back on where he grew explosively, and transition to the next chapter in his life.
For those who are wondering... the title is Latin, and translates to "Looking Back."
