This work continues Geoffrey's recent turn to a broader color pallete applied in each individual work. His comfort with knives, resin based metallic paints, and liberal paint application, can be seen in this newest offering: 'The Epiphany'. The title is based on an experience which occured while painting The Epiphany. After the entire canvas was covered with paint in an almost unconscious flow (much like the finished 'Autumnal', predecessor to Series Beurre), he stepped away to peer at it from a distance and compose his thoughts. Key forms appeared to him as he became semi-conscious. Fontaigne chose to gently enhance these visualized elements, providing more edge and sense of light and shadow to the finished work. As the artist begins to further trust his technique, and his voice, great moments of self discovery will continue. Look for more works in Series Beurre soon. |
