Continuing his interest in tearing, shearing, and contortion of visual fabrics, Fontaigne offers this piece with a tornadic flair and weighty base. The piece conveys the way objects sometimes tear across more than one fissure simultaneously. It is difficult to resist the allusion to Tornadoes, the curving shapes of these particular "tears" convey a natural randomness found in weather and in earlier works from his "figurative ribbons". The fascination with tearing, texture, and surface, reflect the influence of Lucio Fontana's work; especially the later works with copper sheeting.
